Fall 2018 Course: Financial Literacy and Outreach Training

In Fall 2018, the Department of Economics will offer a new experiential learning opportunity for students:  ECON488L: Applied Research Practicum – Financial Literacy Outreach and Training.   The FLOAT Program is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students to strengthen their knowledge of money management techniques, consumer credit and other banking services, and the evaluation of products and service providers.  Students will also learn ways to coach other individuals on making prudent decisions.  The program is competitive; a maximum of 20 students will be selected to participate this semester.  FLOAT is modeled after a  program  at the Wharton School of Business. Felllowship with Hoyer for Congress

Hoyer For Congress is seeking students to be part of the ‘HFC Fall College Fellowship Program’ for the 2018 Maryland campaign cycle. Fellows will work in a fast-paced campaign office and gain first- hand experience with how professional campaigns function.  This is an unpaid fellowship. School credit is available upon request.  Responsibilities:  Assisting with day-to-day campaign field operations.   Assist staff in organizing data entry, phone banks, and door-to-door canvasses. Work on creative projects to increase voter and volunteer engagement in the campaign. Maryland ties and the access to a vehicle are a plus. Global Peace Foundation International Young Leaders Assembly

Government and Politics students at the University of Maryland are invited to attend the Global Peace Foundation's 10th Annual International Young Leaders Assembly. From August 6th - August 15th, t he International Young Leaders Assembly will meet in Washington DC, Philadelphia, and New York City.
